Tallahassee, Florida – An inmate at the Leon County Jail has died. The latest from Tom Flanigan.
The un-named inmate was being escorted to the jail's medical unit for court-ordered DNA testing. Around one-thirty Thursday afternoon he had what Sheriff's Department Spokesman Tony Drzewiecki (durs-WICK-ee) called a medical emergency. Jail medical staff tried CPR and a heart defibrillator to revive the unconscious inmate. But he was pronounced dead at Tallahassee Memorial just after two o'clock. An autopsy will be conducted to find the exact cause of death, but Drzewiecki says it appeared due to natural causes. Sheriff's officials are in the process of notifying the inmate's relatives.
