Leon County is considering installing sidewalks along a heavily traffic segment of Old St. Augustine Road, but not before giving the Canopy Roads Citizens Committee a chance to weigh in.
Committee members and county engineers and consultants walked a segment of Old Saint Augustine between Blair Stone and Paul Russell Road while lunch hour traffic whizzed by.
Committee member Katie Britt says sidewalks would promote sustainability and that would justify minimal tree loss or damage.
“Obviously, we are concerned about any trees that are impacted, but the conceptual, what we talked about today, I definitely don’t think it’s a bad idea.”
Officials stressed the project is still a concept and the rights of way have yet to be obtained.
