Jacquez Kirkland's attorney Mutaqee Akbar speaks at the news conference in front of Tallahassee City Hall as City Commissioners Jeremy Matlow and Jack Porter stand behind him.

One of the three arresting officers allegedly beat DUI suspect Jacquez Kirkland with a baton while the man lay on the ground.

Video captured the beating of a drunk driving suspect by Tallahassee Police this past Sunday. Now, as Tom Flanigan reports, two city commissioners want the incident discussed at their next meeting.
Tallahassee Police say DUI suspect Jacquez Kirkland was resisting arrest when an officer struck him with a baton. But Kirkland appeared to be lying on his stomach when that happened. City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow had this question during a Friday news conference in front of City Hall.

"Have we really created a policy that makes it okay to beat a man with a stick who's lying face down on his stomach?"

City Commissioner Jack Porter said the case should get a full airing out during the June 3rd commission meeting.

"And a true community deliberation over where we go from here is the way toward making good on our past mistakes."

Tallahassee Police released a 46-minute video of the encounter this week after a shorter eyewitness video went viral.
