Local Resident's Take Mirrors Growing Disapproval On 'Black Lives Matter'

Support for the Black Lives Matter movement is declining, according to a PEW Research Survey taken in mid-September.

The decline comes as some racial justice protests have turned violent, and President Donald Trump has ramped up his criticism. The drop in support is most notable among white and Hispanic adults.

“Black Lives Matter, I do not believe they believe any lives matter, except their own," says Lynette Halter, who identifies as White and Hispanic. She recently ran unsuccessfully for a Tallahassee City Commission seat.

Democrats continue to overwhelmingly support the movement while Republican support falls.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently unveiled a plan to crack down on protests. His proposal includes mandatory jail sentences for people who strike officers and makes it a felony to obstruct roadways or deface monuments as part of a “violent or disorderly assembly.”
