Project organizers say children in the neighborhoods around the Tallahassee school will have safer riding experiences as a result of the park and its resources.

The first of what planners hope will be several bicycle parks will soon be under construction in Tallahassee. The project is being done by the Knight Creative Communities Institute.
The bike park was picked by the KCCI community catalyst team, which includes Tarsha Davis.

"It was about 7 months ago when we started the project and identifying Sabal Palm as the location of our first educational bike park in Leon County," she noted.

Sabal Palm Elementary is a Title One school on the city's Southside. Davis said the park will have three components.

"We've got 'A,' 'B' and 'C:' the simulated off-road experience on the basketball court, the covered pavilion and then the off-road ramping experience."

All are designed to help youngsters ride safer. Construction should be done by the time students return to school.
