Second Harvest of the Big Bend was doing another in a non-stop series of food distributions on Wednesday, May 3. Some of the recipients even saw the delivery come right to their door.
Helping the Second Harvest staff and volunteers was the 870th Engineer Company of the Florida National Guard. Staff Sergeant Raymond Daigneault said he and the thirteen other soldiers from the company were real veterans at this kind of mission.
"Usually a delivery like this can go anywhere from a few hundred to a thousand. It all depends on how many are requesting the food."
Wednesday's distribution was at the nearly 200-unit Springfield Apartments on Joe Louis Street. For those residents unable to come to the distribution point, the soldiers were using all-terrain-vehicles to take the food deliveries door-to-door.
