The Florida State University Athletics Department is joining with the Seminole Boosters to become a Direct Support Organization, or DSO.

The new Florida State University Athletic Association will serve as a private, nonprofit umbrella organization.

But some are raising questions about accountability and transparency. DSOs are excluded from many of the state’s public record laws despite operating within the state university system.

WFSU's Shawn Mulcahy spoke with FSU President John Thrasher.

Shawn Mulcahy is a reporter and All Things Considered host for WFSU. He graduated from Florida State University in 2019 with majors in public relations and political science. He was previously an intern at WFSU, and worked as an Account Coordinator at RB Oppenheim Associates.
