CRA Delays Final Vote on its Future

Tom Flanigan

Tallahassee's Community Development Agency (CRA) was questioning its own existence during its meeting on Monday, Sept. 25. Utimately the organization, made up of city and county commissioners, wound up delaying a final decision for a few months

CRA Board Member and Leon County Commissioner Kristin Dozier said there were 3 options on the table during the meeting.

"Whether it's a restricted CRA, sunsetting downtown or the county pulling out and the city moving forward, those are the three that have been under discussion," she said.

Mayor Andrew Gillum urged a considered approach.

"I don't think this is a moment under which any of these motions ought to be considered either to keep it, or to disband part of it, or to get rid of it in total," he said.

And then Dozier spoke up again with a request for some hard data before a final vote.

"I would very much like a more refined analysis of the estimated tax revenue of large projects in the downtown CRA, how that helps our community (and) economic development growth," she said.

Now it's up to CRA staff to have numbers on the cost-effectiveness of various projects by the board's November meeting.
