Palmer Munroe Future Resting In City Budget

Leon County is challenging the City of Tallahassee to steer more funding to the Palmer Munroe Teen Center. The county has helped fund the center for the past six years, but it isn’t included in the commission’s budget plans for the coming fiscal year. Commissioner Mary Ann Lindley says it’s time for the city to step up, adding that the county’s budget is much smaller than the city’s

“You know, so there’s some inequity and things. We’re giving two-thirds of the money for St. Francis Wildlife and the city is giving a third even though the city has two-thirds of the issues. So there’s some balancing to do that we need to work on and I think it’s good for us to move ahead with some relationship issues,” Lindley says.

County commissioners say they agreed to two three-year contracts to help get the center off the ground, but now that they’ve fulfilled that, they need to use their money elsewhere. County Chair Bill Proctor says he’d like to meet with the mayor to discuss the issue. The city’s next budget meeting is scheduled for June 20.
