Tallahassee City Commissioners got an update Wednesday on affordable and low income housing. Mayor Andrew Gillum says he’s noticing a disturbing trend. He says fewer housing units are renewing assisted-housing agreements with the city. The mayor says that's likely because the unit owners have found they can make more money by leaving the program and charging market rate rents.

“And that probably is a smart decision on their behalfs. But that will create an impending crisis. Your ten year outlook, I think is the right time frame for us to be looking at and thinking about how to address this,” Gillum says.

Gillum says he’d like to find ways to partner with members of the community to address the city’s housing needs. He says he hopes that will include businesses involved in creating housing.
