Big Turnout for String Academy Open House

Not everyone in Tallahassee was at the town's two college football stadiums on Saturday (10/17). There was a surprisingly large turnout of young people and their parents at the new Bach Parley String Academy.

Members of the Bach Parley, a Tallahassee string ensemble that specializes in Baroque music, were giving demonstrations. Meanwhile Parley member Miriam Barfield was introducing visitors to a table full of violins, violas and cellos. “So we brought a bunch of different sizes of violins from very tiny all the way to adult size and we’re just letting anybody try them and we’re showing them how to play and get all set up,” she said as the young people tried their hands at the various instruments. Instructor Carrie Holden said it wasn't just the kids who were excited about the experience. “Well, I had some interest before today and I got a group of names and then today I’m almost to the point where I might open a second adult group class,” she marveled. The Bach Parley String Academy recently opened at St. John's Episcopal Church in downtown Tallahassee.
