After more than 37,000 votes and 89 nominations, BowStern Marketing Communications has chosen a winner of Project Mayday. The project provides pro-bono marketing to a nonprofit organization in the Big Bend area.

Lora and Demetrius Branca stood in the lobby of BowStern Thursday to accept a check on behalf of the foundation they started in honor of their late son, Anthony. The 19-year-old died when a Comcast van hit his motorcycle last November. His parents started the Anthony Phoenix Branca, or APB, Foundation to raise awareness about distracted driving.

The CEO of BowStern, Kelly Robertson, said the newly-formed APB Foundation will give more mileage to campaigns against distracted driving, and the dangers of texting and driving and putting on makeup behind the wheel.

“They need a lot of assistance; Everything from a re-brand - or new brand shall I say - to a website to public relations assistance,” Robertson said. “So we’re really here to help them with the full integrated marketing support.”

In 2013, distracted driving killed about 3,000 people and injured 424,000. The APB foundation will aid families and provide scholarships.
