This week is Firefighter Appreciation and the Florida State Association of Firefighters is recognizing the emergency responders for their hard work., and one of Tallahassee’s own has been named fire chief of the year.

This year’s Florida Fire Chief of the year is Tallahassee Fire Department Chief Cindy Dick, a 26 year veteran.  Chief Dick was nominated by her staff and recognized Tuesday at the Governor’s Cabinet meeting.   Dick said she was incredibly surprised when she received the award.

“As they were announcing the award its one of things that they start to talk about the recipient and you start to listen and you start to think ‘that might be me!’ and so I was quite honored and quite surprised,” Dick said.

Dick has announced plans to retire from the Fire Department this July. She’ll be spending her extra time with her son who is soon starting high school.
