Capital Circle Facelift

The Capital City’s beltway is getting a facelift starting Monday.  Tallahassee and Leon County officials are expanding the road to be nearly as wide as a football field.

The existing two lane rural portion of Capital Circle Northwest and Southwest will be expanded into a six lane, 230 wide foot, highway. Officials are planning landscaping projects to create more space for pedestrians and bicycle traffic.  City of Tallahassee Commissioner Nancy Miller said the move will give Tallahassee a new gateway from the airport.

“I think the most significant thing is that right now there’s not a really attractive way to bring your friends and family in to Tallahassee – that will change with this project – that’s the part that is most meaningful to me, this is a problem we’ve been trying to figure out how to overcome for over twenty years,” said Miller.

Construction on the $56-million program begins next Monday spanning from Orange Avenue to Tennessee Street, and is expected to be completed by 2015.
