Tallahassee, FL – The legislature would take over Florida's water management agencies under a bill that cleared the Senate's budget Committee Thursday. Lynn Hatter reports.
The proposal puts caps on how much money the water districts could raise in property taxes. The agencies would also have to submit their budgets to the legislature for approval, and those budgets would be subject to the Governor's veto pen.
The Water management districts have a lot of money in their budget reserves at a time when the state is trying to fill a budget hole that's around 3.8-billion dollars.
