Tallahassee, FL – The Florida Education Association is appealing a circuit court ruling that placed two proposed constitutional amendments on the November ballot. James Call reports the teacher's union says the tax commission abused its authority when it wrote amendments 7 and 9
Opponents to the amendments say they promote school vouchers and send public money to private schools. FEA attorney Ron Meyer contends the tax commission's power is related only to taxation and the budgetary process. He says the proposals would weaken local control of schools.
In addition to filing the notice of appeal, Meyer also requested that the appeal be passed through to the florida supreme court.
