During a Thursday morning press conference, Tallahassee City Manager Reese Goad named Lawrence Revell Tallahassee's new chief of police. The move comes after Antoni Gilliam, who had been named chief earlier this month, rescinded his acceptance of the job.

A recent rash of gun violence in Tallahassee hasn’t been lost on Governor Ron DeSantis. The governor was asked after Tuesday’s cabinet meeting about crime in the City.

Wednesday’s stabbing attack at Dyke Industries is adding to the violence that’s plagued the capital city this year. There've already been more shootings than last year, including four in the past five days, two of which were fatal.

Leon County’s per-capita crime rate for 2015 is the highest in the state once again. The issue is playing into the local election cycle as law enforcement and candidates grapple with how to address it.


When it comes to crime in Tallahassee, TPD Chief Mike DeLeo says his agency watches indicators such as sexual assault and aggravated assaults to measure, as he puts it, “what’s going on in the streets”.

Leon County has seen increases in violent crimes since 2014. The Leon County Sheriff’s Department has implemented programs in the area to help reduce those rates.

Gun violence in Tallahassee continues. And now the city’s Council on Gun Violence is out with a recommendation. It wants to bring a nationally-known program called Cure Violence to the area.

The Tallahassee City Commission is setting its agenda for the year and that includes increasing community policing in high crime areas.

City of Tallahassee leaders are unveiling Operation Safe Neighborhoods, a summer initiative to curb gun violence in the city. The move comes after three shootings this past weekend left one man dead and two minors injured.

An early-morning incident today was the fourth time in a month Tallahassee police officers have shot suspects they were pursuing.  Tonight, the community is invited to discuss gun violence with TPD at a town hall.


The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at New Birth Tabernacle, 1200 Harlem St.—that’s near the intersection of West Tennessee Street and Stadium Drive.

Pastor Rudy Ferguson says he’s hosting it because he wants to ensure the African-American community partners with police to work on solutions.

A recent shooting at a local gas station is the latest in a string of violent crime that’s been plaguing the Tallahassee area, and the city’s newest police chief is weighing in.

It’s been five months since Michael DeLeo assumed his new role as head of Tallahassee's Police department. In that time, he says he’s continuing to meet with different groups and residents in the community. He says he’s also been keeping busy with evaluating the police department as it continues to transition.
