The case of a long-missing Tallahassee area man is now officially considered a homicide. Investigators have found Mike Williams’ remains 17 years after he allegedly headed for a duck hunt in Jackson County in 2000.

Luis Rivera, the second suspect in the murder of a Florida State University law professor, is now in custody at Leon County Jail. 

The Offices of the State Attorney and Public Defenders are asking Florida lawmakers to give them funding to increase the salaries of the state’s lawyers. Both offices say they’re experiencing high turnover rates, because of the low pay their attorneys receive.

William Eddins, the State Attorney for the First Judicial Court, says across the state, his office is having trouble keeping attorneys in their jobs.  And he adds those who stay, are generally less experienced.

The Department of Corrections is looking into an inmate death that happened over the weekend. That death resulted from an earlier beating at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution, a maximum security prison in north Florida. As Sascha Cordner reports, the case is under investigation by the department’s Inspector General as well as the State Attorney’s Office.
