StarMetro is offering free bus rides Thursday in honor of “Dump the Pump” day. The 13th annual national campaign encourages the use of public transportation instead of a car. Tallahassee City Spokeswoman Lavonia Jones says there are so many benefits.


Tallahassee’s bus system will offer free bus rides on all of its routes this Saturday. In honor of the 62nd anniversary of the Tallahassee Bus Boycott, StarMetro’s free-fare day is a part of a series of local commemoration events held through May 26th.

The City of Tallahassee is encouraging residents to ditch their cars and take public transportation for a spin as part of Florida’s Active Transportation Week.

Tallahassee marked “Take a Trip on Transit Day” by offering free rides on all StarMetro buses.  This comes at a time when the use of public transit, while still not as popular as personal vehicles, is slowly growing in Florida.

Tallahassee’s local bus service is offering free rides to voters to the polls on Election Day, all day Tuesday.

Starting at around 5:30 a.m., StarMetro will be offering free rides on all of its regular routes. So, the bus service director Ivan Maldanado says it’s not just for voters, it’s also for everyday riders.

The city of Tallahassee is seeking input as it plans for rapid bus service through downtown. It’s the same system cities like Eugene, Oregon, have already. It uses longer buses running on dedicated lanes to move a large volume of people more quickly than regular buses. StarMetro planners will present a few potential routes at meetings on Thursday.

On Thursday, Tallahassee’s StarMetro transit service is offering free bus rides as part of the national annual Dump the Pump day. The city is also taking the day as an opportunity to gather input on new proposed transportation routes.

As Tallahassee development grows denser, city planners are looking to streamline transit routes.

StarMetro and Florida State University may cut the number of bus routes available through the university’s campus bus service, Seminole Express, as part of a proposed service agreement. Tallahassee City Commissioners will vote on the plan during their meeting on Wednesday.

People waiting to ride buses in Tallahassee Friday morning got a surprise to help take the edge off the cold weather. City workers handed out gloves, hats, donuts and coffee to bus riders and the homeless.

At 7 a.m. Friday, it was COLD in Tallahassee.

WTSP Meteorologist Bobby Deskins gave this forecast: “It’s breezy out there, and it’s going to make it feel more like the 20's as you step outside.”

He wasn’t kidding.
