It’s good news to Florida’s Congressional Delegation and Governor Rick Scott that Congress could be close to striking a deal on funding efforts to combat the Zika virus. Florida just passed the 800 mark for the amount of cases reported to health officials. But, Florida leaders are a bit split on how that funding should be accomplished.

Charlie Crist’s former running mate in Florida’s last gubernatorial race is now seeking a Congressional seat.

Following U.S. House passage of a bill which would direct money to water conservation in Florida, a Congressman who pushed the legislation is calling on Governor Rick Scott to stop the political gamesmanship with regards to the state’s local waterways.

In recent weeks, there’ve been several calls for President Barack Obama to take a tour of Florida’s damaged waterways, and Scott has been particularly critical.

Congressional, state, and environmental leaders are hoping to continue trying to make the Everglades a focus this year. From a bipartisan group of lawmakers working together in Congress to federal and state officials exploring ways to continue their efforts through an open forum, restoring Florida’s River of Grass could take center stage this year.

Florida’s environment---particularly the Everglades---could be a major topic of discussion in Congress this year. Several Florida Congressmen are partnering on bi-partisan proposals aimed at Everglades restoration.

A New Congress has been sworn in, and several of its newest members hail from the Sunshine State. They’re six men and one woman, all hoping to make their mark on Capitol Hill in Washington to do what they say Floridians elected them to do.

Thursday afternoon marked the start of the 113th Congress, and for some of its newest members, the swearing-in ceremony had them feeling all sorts of emotions from humbleness to excitement.

A New Congress was sworn in Thursday, and seven of its newest members are from Florida. That includes the youngest House member of the 113th Congress, Democratic Congressman Patrick Murphy, who unseated Tea Party favorite Allen West.

The 2012 Florida election results are official after the state certified them on Tuesday. After some election-night snags and tight races that kept supervisors counting, even past the deadline, many Florida officials and lawmakers are calling for elections reforms.

With their signatures on the elections certificates, the Florida Elections Canvassing Commission put an end to some hotly contested races. The commission is made up of Gov. Rick Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and Secretary of State Ken Detzner.

And, West is now refusing to concede defeat, citing disturbing irregularities” and ballots unaccounted for at a couple polls in Florida.
