Docs vs. Glocks: 11th Circuit Guts Law Barring Doctors From Asking About Guns

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled against Florida in the so-called Docs vs. Glocks case.

Florida’s law prevents doctors from asking patients about guns in their household or including such information in medical records.  The law has been caught up in the courts since its passage in 2011.

Now the 11th Circuit Court of Appeal has ruled three provisions of the law violate the first amendment.  At the same time, the court upheld a provision saying doctors can’t deny service based solely on gun ownership.   The ruling is en banc, which means the entire court heard the case.  The next step if the case continues is the US Supreme Court.
