Wanted: Supreme Court Justice. Good Pay. Decent Benefits. Strict Dress Code.

UPDATE:  Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission Chairman Jason Unger reported late Tuesday evening that  C. Alan Lawson, chief judge of the Fifth District Court of Appeal in Daytona Beach,  has thrown his hat in the ring. Stay tuned....

The job comes with a six-figure salary, state benefits and a month-long summer recess.

But more than two weeks after putting out the call, the Judicial Nominating Commission has yet to receive a single application to replace retiring Florida Supreme Court Justice James Perry.

The deadline is November 11th, but JNC chairman Jason Unger says he’s not concerned.

“The applications are very detailed. They do include tax returns and other financial information as well as significant cases that the applicants have been involved with, so it does take some time.”

Applicants must be members of the Florida Bar for 10 years or more and they must reside in the 13-county Central Florida region served by the Fifth District Court of Appeal. Unger says the commission expects to forward six finalists to Governor Rick Scott by the end of the month.
