President Barack Obama is commuting the sentences of 214 men and women. Thirty of those cases come from Florida.
This week the White House is touting President Obama’s commutation record: 562 after the latest round of reductions. Most of the 214 new commutations are for drug offenses, and 30 on the list are from Florida. In a video address last year the president explained his efforts to reduce federal sentences.
“We’re at a moment when some good people in both parties, Republicans and Democrats, and folks all across the country are coming around ideas to make the system work smarter—make it work better,” Obama said, “and I’m determined to do my part wherever I can.”
In North Florida, Christopher Dees and Christopher Stanton are getting reduced sentences. Dees will be released December of this year. Stanton gets out next August.
