The League of Women Voters is adding its voice to a liberal chorus calling for a special session of the Legislature.
League President Pamela Goodman is demanding Governor Rick Scott and House and Senate leaders respond to the Orlando mass shooting by banning assault style weapons.
“This would follow precedents already in seven states, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey and New York, which already statewide ban assault weapons.”
Goodman also wants to ban large-capacity magazines and to require criminal background checks for private gun sales.
Senate President Andy Gardiner rejected a similar call by several Democratic lawmakers, noting that some of them were running for Congress.
