In the wake of the shooting death of a black teen in Sanford, Florida back in February several groups have been calling for a review of Florida’s gun laws. Today Senator Chris Smith will discuss his findings on the state’s “Stand Your Ground Law.” The statute has been implicated in the case against George Zimmerman, who has been charged with Second-degree murder for shooting Trayvon Martin.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will release its annual crime report today. Commissioner Gerald Bailey will present the stats which show whether crime is up or down.
And the Florida Bar wants voters to know about the state’s merit retention process.Merit retention is the process where Supreme Court Justices and appellate court judges must face the voters in a "yes" or "no" vote as to whether they should remain on the bench.
