Daily News Digest: 4/24/2012:

The Director of the Florida Division of Forestry updated the Florida Cabinet on the state’s wildfire conditions. All of Florida is in a drought that began back in 2010. This year, 58,000 acres have burned so far and it could be worse before it gets better.

The cabinet, composed of the Governor, Agriculture Commissioner, Attorney General and Chief Financial Officer, will also consider rate increases for the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund.

And Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will head up the first meeting of a statewide task force to examine the issue of prescription drug abuse and newborns. Bondi has been working for more than a year to crack down on Florida’s prescription drug abuse epidemic.
