Tallahassee, FL – Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam says, the solar rebate check is in the mail. James Call reports after a two year delay, the state is issuing partial rebates promised to consumers.

The state started a rebate program in 2006 for people who bought solar water heaters and electric systems.

But demand outstripped the money supply and in 2009 the state stopped writing checks. Last November the Legislature agreed to spend 22 million dollars to close the books on the program. Putnam says he has finished reviewing applications and is sending out rebates this week.

"When we ran the formula after looking at the entire pool of qualified recipients they will be getting back about 52 cents on the dollar."

When the program stalled two years ago there were 15 thousand outstanding applications. Putnam says his office will send out 8,800 rebate checks.
