Tallahassee, FL – Representatives from a coalition supporting high speed rail Thursday delivered a petition to Governor Rick Scott's office. James Call reports a 30-foot long list with nearly 3,000 names ask the Governor to take another look at the Orlando to Tampa bullet train project.
The governor wasn't available when the conservation alliance and public interest research group arrived at his office door. The groups say they gathered the names this week with more than 2000 electronic signatures collected in less than 24 hours. Brad Ashwell is with Florida Public Interest Research Group and said there is wide spread support for high speed rail.
It's important that Rick Scott hears from the people of Florida, we're seeing a lot of pressure from gorups in Florida that we think represent a small minority of all Floridians. We think high speed rail will be good for Florida's economy, good for jobs, good for business good for the environment, really good for our whole quality of life."
The governor was unavailable to meet with the petitioners. They delivered their
statement hours before the supreme court heard oral arguments in a suit challenging Scott's authority to reject a federal grant to build the rail line.
