Tallahassee, FL – Gov. Rick Scott will roll out his budget recommendations at a tea party event in the small central Florida town of Eustis. James Call reports.
The Republican governor confirmed Tuesday he will break with the practice of unveiling his spending plan next Monday at the state capitol. Previous governors have traveled the state to announce various pieces of their budget but none in recent memory has unveiled the complete budget proposal away from Tallahassee.
"I'm trying my best to get around the state. And I'm traveling almost every day somewhere. And because I represent 18-plus million Floridians, hopefully we'll have 20-25 million in the next few years, but just trying to get around the state."
Rolling out his first budget proposal at a Tea Party event away from the state capitol underscores Scott's pledge to cut spending and taxes. Legislators have taken a wait and see attitude about fee and tax reductions with the state facing a four-to-six billion dollar shortfall in revenue.
