Florida doctors say models indicate an end to the current surge in coronavirus cases could be in sight. But they caution, that all depends on more people getting vaccinated. We get that story from Regan McCarthy.

Students will still be counted as present if they’re at home quarantining. Parents can opt to send their kids to other schools if they’re bullied over COVID-19. Florida’s State Board of Education approved 2 emergency rules related to the ongoing pandemic that, as Lynn Hatter tells us, are only further riling up worried parents who are preparing to send their kids back to the state’s classrooms this month.

As we hear from WLRN’s Jessica Bakeman, Florida’s mask mandate mess is playing out at school board meetings all over the state. And may ultimately wind up in the courts.

Florida’s new school year begins as early as next week in some districts. Along with the new year, come new changes to state standards in the areas of civics, government, and history. But as Blaise Gainey reports, educators and policy makers believe the new standards won’t translate into actual changes in the classroom.

Hundreds of millions of dollars in federal aid remain available to Florida resident’s who’ve incurred overdue rent and utility bills during the pandemic months. As Valerie Crowder reports, the delay in part comes from a need to get the word out about how residents can apply.

The Florida Prepaid program has been helping the state’s parents save for their youngsters’ college education for years. Now, as Tom Flanigan reports, there have been some major enhancements in terms of flexibility and affordability.
