Capital Report: 01-22-2016

Florida Governor Rick Scott signed three bills into law Thursday, the first round of the 2016 Legislative session. Kate Payne reports the smooth passage of the top priority bills could ease tensions at the State Capitol.

Florida has some of the most wide-ranging public records laws in the country.  But some say these so-called sunshine provisions are under attack.  Nick Evans has more.

While Florida lawmakers are preparing to put together a budget for the coming fiscal year, some are wondering how a proposed $3-billion gaming agreement might fit in. Lawmakers heard from the Governor’s office and Seminole Tribe about exactly what the agreement contains. Regan McCarthy reports.

Florida’s appellate and Supreme Court magistrates could be subject to term limits under a plan by the Florida House. Supporters of the bill, including the chamber’s conservative leaders, say judges were never meant to have lifetime appointments to the bench. Lynn Hatter reports.

Now that the work is complete on the now-closed Dozier School for boys, alleged abuse survivors and elected officials are now looking into ways of how to move forward together. As Sascha Cordner reports, a final report on the work done to reunite the remains of loved ones buried on the property with their families is still leaving all parties involved with some unanswered questions.
