For the first time in its 50-year history, the Springtime Tallahassee event over the weekend had to scale back in the face of inclement weather. Although a shortened version of the annual parade did take place, the Springtime Festival downtown was canceled.
Just the threat of severe storms was enough to keep many spectators away, although several thousand people did line Monroe Street to see the various Crewe floats, several marching bands, local personalities, including plenty of politicians and bunches of businesses and non-profit organizations. The rain held off for most of the parade, but moved over the downtown area just as the last units were approaching the reviewing stands. Springtime Tallahassee wasn't the only weather casualty. The rain also washed out Havana's Reggae Festival, which organizers say will be rescheduled.
