Veterans and union members are teeing off on Donald Trump ahead of the Republican presidential candidate’s visits to Daytona and Jacksonville. The former service members are still fuming over Trump’s treatment of the Khan family.
The parents of Humayun Khan—an Army captain of Pakistani descent who lost his life fighting in Iraq—took Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump to task during the Democratic convention. In response, Trump lashed out at the Gold Star family.
Veteran and union member David Gates says it doesn’t happen often, but in this instance he agrees with New Jersey Governor Chris Cristie.
“For his position on the Khan family vs. Donald Trump,” Gates says, “I’m afraid I have to agree. When a father and mother have made the ultimate sacrifice by losing a son in the defense of his country, then they have the right to say whatever they damn well please.”
Cristie joins many Republican leaders who have distanced themselves from Trump’s comments, but not the nominee.
