Tree Removal Underway In Boynton Still Neighborhood, Making Way For FAMU Way Extension

Crews have begun the process of cutting down trees in the Boynton Still neighborhood to make way for an extension of FAMU Way. The joint City of Tallahassee and Blueprint 2000 project is being opposed by environmentalist groups.

Ginny Grimsley is with Save Historical Structures and Heritage Trees. She was on hand Tuesday when the first limbs were cut off.

I was here to get video of it. If they’re going to take them down, then everyone needs to see what has been condoned and ordered by the City of Tallahassee,” Grimsley said. “Just because it’s ugly, it’s atrocious. And they have this fence up so that nobody can see it, and there’s a reason for that, it’s because it’s really ugly. It’s a bad look.”

Grimsley says the City Commission has granted her group a meeting to discuss the FAMU Way project. It is scheduled for September 5 at 5 p.m.
