The City of Tallahassee is taking inventory of its trees. Tree canopies cover 55% of Tallahassee.

Canopy roads are in a tree protection zone, ensuring proper maintenance and care for them. Now, arborists are trying to determine what kind of trees are dominant in the city. Leon Trees Executive Director Tabitha Frazier says tree inventory’s can help residents have clear indications of tree needs to avoid potentially damaging tree falls.

“The public tree inventory that is conducting now is to find out what type of trees do we have, where are they located and yes, what is the health; because we want to have diversity,” says Frazier.

Frazier says most trees are weakened by building and construction, rather than natural occurrences. Proper tree maintenance can decrease the number of trees falling in the city.
