The Foundation for Florida’s Future is recognizing two Tallahassee lawmakers.
Sen. Bill Montford (D-Tallahassee) earned an A on the foundation’s report card even though he voted against a measure the organization supported.
The bill created the Family Empowerment Scholarship, which gives families state dollars to send students to private schools. Montford contends it's unconstitutional.
“The Supreme Court back in 2005 in a case when Governor Bush was in office, ruled against a voucher program,” said Montford.
But Montford is proud he earned a spot on the Honor Roll. He said lawmakers made positive changes in public education this session.
“I’m very proud of the fact that in the Senate’s Appropriation Committee I played a role in assuring that we got one of the most sizeable increases in the funding of public education in the last twenty five years,” he said.
Tallahassee Democratic Representative Ramon Alexander also made Honor Roll. He credits his commitment to workforce education.
