The search has now officially started for Governor Rick Scott’s next second-In-command. Scott is looking for his next running mate to replace former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll, who resigned amid a probe into an alleged gambling scandal.
Following Carroll’s resignation, Governor Scott says he wanted to wait awhile before looking for her replacement. Months later, Scott says he’s finally ready to begin.
“We’re starting the process, now that we’re done with the session, the budget, the bills. I’ve asked my Chief of Staff, Adam Hollingsworth, to help me with the criteria, what the qualifications, what we should be looking for. Then, we’ll take the right amount of time because we want to get the right person who will be good at this.”
In the past, Scott has said he’s looking for someone who’ll push jobs and education, though he hasn’t named anyone specific. There’s also been speculation the Governor is receiving outside help in finding his next running mate, including from former Senate President Mike Haridopolos. But Scott says for now, “it’s an internal process.”
“...so it won’t be done externally. As I travel the state, there’s plenty of people who give me advice, want to hand me resumes, all sorts of things. But, it’s an internal process.”
