SCOTUS Strikes Down Texas Abortion Law, Florida Measure In Jeopardy

The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down a Texas law requiring abortion providers to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.  Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates Executive Director Laura Goodhue says that could spell the end for similar legislation in Florida.

“It sends a strong message that these types of restrictions on abortion are unconstitutional,” Goodhue says.

Goodhue’s organization is already challenging Florida’s law in federal court, but the case is aimed at a number of other provisions.  Oral arguments are scheduled for Wednesday, and the measure takes effect Friday unless the judge intervenes.

While he worked on his degree Nick moved from intern, to part-timer, to full-time reporter. Before moving to Tallahassee, Nick lived in and around the San Francisco Bay Area for 15 years. He listens to far too many podcasts and is a die-hard 49ers football fan. When Nick’s not at work he likes to cook, play music and read.
