The main group that helps represent and promote Florida’s biggest money-making industry is the latest to endorse Governor Rick Scott.
The Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association made the announcement at the group’s summit Wednesday in Tampa. And, Governor Scott says he couldn’t be happier.
“Very appreciative of y’all’s endorsement. I’m going to continue to work every day to…hopefully this year, we’ll have 100 million tourists, and next year, we’ll keep growing every year over the next four and half years,” said Scott.
And, he adds he needs their help to succeed in his re-election bid.
“I think most people get elected tell you to send checks, and that’s clearly important, but probably the most important thing is let everyone know that year round—let your employees know, let your customers know, let everybody know—that this election will have a consequence on the future of our state, it’s going to have an impact on tourism, it’s going to have an impact on where we go…,” he added.
In a statement, the FRLA said it endorsed Scott because he understands the importance the tourism and hospitality industry has on Florida’s economy, adding that Scott secured about $75 million for VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s tourism arm.
Florida’s $76.1 billion hospitality industry—which is about a fourth of Florida’s economy—is the number one industry in the state.
