Sancho: All Leon County Voters Can Vote In Aug. Primary, No Matter Your Party Affiliation

MGN Online

The August 30th Primary is just around the corner, and a common misconception is only those affiliated with a major political party can vote in that election. But, Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho wants to set the record straight.

There will be partisan contests where only Republicans, Democrats, and even Libertarians can vote. But, Sancho says there are non-partisan races as well that are open to everyone.

“Because of the way Leon County has a local charter means that all school board, the Supervisor of Elections, all county commission candidates, and all city commission candidates…they’re open for everyone,” said Sancho. “They’re not closed by party, and then we have finally, a constitutional amendment relative to solar devices or renewable energy. That will also be on the August 30th ballot.”

Sancho says depending on the turnout and if some contests garner more than 50 percent of the vote, a significant number of the local races could be determined August 30th before the November general election. The last day to register for the Primary is Monday.
