Rockin' Out for the Riley House Museum

Tom Flanigan

The threat of showers on Saturday moved the yearly Rockathon to benefit the Riley House Museum from Cascades Park to the FAMU Developmental Research School Gym.

But that didn't restrain the enthusiasm of the participants. The event was actually a rocking chair marathon. Volunteers including elected officials and other celebrities, fraternity men, sorority women and plenty of other folks. Riley House Director Emeritus Althamese Barnes was delighted at the turnout.

"This is the beginning of the season!" she smiled. "So we try to impart by giving an opportunity for the community to come together."

The Rockathon has also become a truly multi-cultural celebration. Entertainment to keep the rockers rocking came from many ethnic and racial groups in the Tallahassee community.
