An LGBT gun reform group is backing a candidate in Florida’s U.S. Senate race.  The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender organization is backing Democratic nominee Patrick Murphy.

The Pride Fund to End Gun Violence sprang up in the wake of the pulse nightclub shooting.  Executive Director Jason Lindsay says the group favors Murphy over incumbent Republican Senator Marco Rubio.

“Marco Rubio needs to be fired, and we’re going to fight every single day between now and the election to make sure that Patrick Murphy wins in November,” Lindsay says.

The Pride Fund is pushing for what it terms commonsense reforms, and Murphy says he’ll fight for those changes if he wins the election.

“If the FBI suspects that someone is a terrorist, it’s common sense that we wouldn’t let that person go out and buy a gun.  We also need to expand background checks, because background checks have already stopped millions of gun sales to individuals like felons and domestic abusers.”

Murphy believes the Senate will vote on those issues if Democrats gain control of the chamber.  He’s challenging incumbent Republican Senator Marco Rubio.
