Perspectives: Ode to Joy: Ode to Understanding

Performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, including the soul-stirring “Ode to Joy” Fourth Movement will take place the evening of Saturday, March 30th and afternoon of Sunday, March 31st at FSU’s Ruby Diamond Concert Hall (the March 31st event will also be live streamed on WFSU.org.) Joining the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra will be the Morehouse College Glee Club and Florida A&M Concert Choir.  Sunday’s performance, entitled “Ode to Understanding,” will begin with the presentation of Joel Thompson’s “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed,” followed by a community conversation about the work and its larger social implications and concluding with Beethoven’s Ninth.  To provide a preview of this groundbreaking weekend:  Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra CEO Mandy Stringer; TSO Board Member Byron Greene; Leon County Government’s Community and Media Relations Manager Britney Smith; and Founder/CEO of the Village Square, Liz Joyner.
