Pensacola Disaster Recovery Centers To Be Operational Sunday

The Florida Channel
Gov. Scott met with residents in Pensacola Thursday

A week after record flooding swept through Pensacola, state, federal and local authorities are still trying to assess the extent of damage. Florida Governor Rick Scott joined state and local politicians at the Escambia County Commission meeting Thursday morning.

Pensacola was drenched with record rainfall as a nasty storm system swept across the south last week. Travel in much of the Panhandle city is still dicey and many residents still don’t have access to their homes, cars and boats. Governor Rick Scott joined residents in Escambia County Thursday to assess the damage and let people know help is on the way.

“We’ll look at what else we can do. We’ve activated the Florida Disaster Fund, which works through Volunteer Florida, where individuals and businesses can donate where maybe we can do some things maybe for citizens that doesn’t fit within the existing process,” Scott said.

Scott declared a state of emergency for the Panhandle last week and President Obama signed a Florida disaster declaration yesterday. Federal Emergency Management’s disaster recovery centers are expected to be functioning by the end of this weekend.
