Democrat Jack Campbell is the next state attorney in the 2nd judicial circuit. Campbell beat out his competitor Republican Pete Williams, winning 55 percent of Leon County voters.

Jack Campbell will be North Florida’s top prosecutor in a district with 300,000 people, stretching across six Panhandle counties.

“I’m still probably in a little bit of shock. I’m excited, obviously I’ve been working at this in some ways for fifteen years. And certainly been running for over a year now. I’m truly humbled and grateful for the confidence the community has put into me,” he said.

The Democrat boasts 15 years of experience working in the office of long-time state attorney Willie Meggs. He is the son of the late Larry Campbell, a long-time Leon County Sheriff, and inherits his father’s name recognition and relationships with law enforcement. Opponents argue Jack Campbell is part of a quote “old boys club” characterized by nepotism and corruption. But Campbell says his connections to the community are an asset.

“The fact that I can call Chief DeLeo tonight and speak with absolute trust. Or I can call the sheriff of every county in the circuit…” he said.

Jack Campbell says when he takes office, he hopes to combat crime by addressing underlying issues like poverty and drug addiction.
