Irma Victims Seeking Fed Aid May Be Impacted By Hurricane Harvey Victims Doing The Same

MGN Online

The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey on Texas may be impacting Irma victims in Florida trying to register for federal assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Gracia Szczech is FEMA’s Regional administrator for Region IV, which includes several southern states like Florida and Georgia. She says the biggest thing her agency wants residents to do is register.

“Those who had impacts to their homes or in the shelters, they need to register. The best way to register is www.disasterassistance.gov or they can go the FEMA application. There’s also a phone number they can call, which is 1-800-621-FEMA. And, unfortunately, with the experience of disasters of Harvey and now, those phone lines are busy. So, that’s why we recommend for you to go to the website or the FEMA application.”
