Health Officials Remind Floridians 'Don't Forgo The H2O' During Hurricane Season

With Hurricane Season upon us, Florida Department of Health officials are reminding residents about some healthy tips to remember.

"Well, certainly, Tropical Storm Andrea has given our state a heads up that Hurricane Season is well upon us. So, an essential part of any preparedness kit is going to be a supply of prescription medications that should least at least 30 days. Further, those with special medical needs should know where their special-needs shelter is and inform the Department of Health so that efforts can be made when evacuation is in order,” said Dr. John Armstrong, the head of the state department.

His department also came out with an emergency preparedness video, “Don’t Forgo the H2O,” and it provides more tips to help residents remain safe and healthy during the hurricane season.

  • Remember the number three.
    • Preserve at least a 3 day supply of water for each person and pet, keeping in mind that each person or pet will need 3 gallons of water per day.
  • If you purchased bottle water, keep it in the original sealed container and take note of the use by date.
  • Make sure to change stored water every 6 months, so it stays fresh.
  • Plan now for potential emergencies by creating your families disaster plan and kit.
  • And, don’t forgo that H2O.”
