WFSU Public Media hosted the third annual Be My Neighbor Day on Saturday. The event helped re-inforce the Capital City's image as a family-friendly community.
The City of Tallahassee was among the event's multiple partners and City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow read an official proclamation to kick off the event at Kleman Plaza. The document acknowledged,
"A nationwide movement celebrating the legacy of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood with his simple signature question and song:'Won't you be my neighbor?'"
Commissioner Matlow, who brought his own family to the occasion, said he and his city colleagues are focused on keeping Tallahassee a place where families can grow and thrive.
"In a city where you can get across town in 10 or 15 minutes and not worry about crazy amounts of congestion we see in bigger cities, I just think it makes it a family-friendly city," he remarked afterward. "Quality of life is one of our top priorities and I think families fit right in line with that."
Meanwhile, thousands of kids - and grownups - waited in line to meet PBS Kids star Daniel Tiger and take city trolleys to other fun happenings at the main county library, the various downtown museums and Cascades Park.
