How does an organization keep providing food and fellowship to shut-in seniors in the age of COVID-19? That's the challenge that Elder Care Services of the Big Bend is tackling.

"Some of our in-person programs we've had to think creatively about to serve those clients (and) maintain social distancing. We're working a lot from home, which is great. We can provide a lot of support via the phone," Fliger said."
But delivering Meals-on-Wheels is something that can't be done over the phone, and Fliger stressed the big push now is to serve both existing clients and those on the agency's waiting list.
"We were serving hot food every single day. We're going to go to frozen foods for now and hopefully go back to hot food once this is over. But we're able to produce more using frozen foods and then checking in with the people on the waiting list to see if that's a reasonable accomodation for them."
New ways to meet greater needs as the pandemic continues.
