Tallahassee, FL – The presidential election was when the push for increased domestic oil and natural gas exploration became a major political issue. "Drill, baby, drill" became a popular campaign mantra. Charlie Crist, Florida's environmentally sensitive governor, seemed to soften his opposition to offshore drilling when he was briefly linked with the McCain campaign. After the election, the issue was mostly kept alive by an unrelenting series of cable TV ads paid for by the American Petroleum Institute. All tat changed, though, during the final week of the Florida Legislative session. We get that story from Trimmel Gomes.
